Christmas Thoughts

Christmas time is fast approaching and around this time we do a lot of things. We get a tree, buy presents, sing songs, and think about a lot of things. But that is not what Christmas is. That is what we do.

To many people it's all about Santa Clause and getting lots of presents. But why do we give presents in the first place? Why does Santa Clause come barreling down the chimney (for those who have one) every year with a sack of presents? It all points (0r rather it should point) to the perfect gift of God given to all mankind many years ago.

We hear many songs around this time of year, and one of them is Joy to the World. Do you think about what those words are saying? Recently, my brother, Jeremy heard that song playing in a shop in the mall. People walking back and forth and going about here business are missing some great news in this song:

Joy to the world,
the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the earth,
the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

This year let's remember who and what we are celebrating and what gift giving symbolizes.
